This session focuses on examining the background and context of engaging students in mathematical problem solving in the primary school. It looks at using a routine to develop student autonomy in relation to engaging in problem solving and identifies the key strategies that students should draw on. Finally, it will focus on evaluating, categorising and writing problems.

Biography

Dr. John O'Shea is a Senior Lecturer with responsibility for the B.Ed. programme in Mary Immaculate College, Limerick. He is also a lecturer in Mathematics Education at both undergraduate and post-graduate level.

This session covers Lists in Python. We aim to cover fundamentals, pedagogical approaches and activities, to help you in your classroom for leaving certificate computer science. We will cover creating, appending, deleting, copying, indexing and display 1D lists, and if time permits an introduction to 2D lists. While we will cover content the goal is to work on how to deliver such content in the class, basing our approaches on “use, modify, create” and PRIMM with suitable take-home activities.
