An Introduction to the Welcome to Well-Being Programme

Join author Fiona Forman as she gives an outline of her new 3 -level SPHE programme for Infants to First Class children, Welcome to Well-Being, available in January 2021.

Fiona is a former primary teacher and is the co-author of the Weaving Well-Being programme for 2nd to 6th class, which is now in use in the majority of primary schools in Ireland. Her new programme follows the same structure and aims to provide a practical and child-centred resource to help teachers to nurture the well-being of children in the junior classes.

Welcome to Well-Being is based on the field of Positive Psychology, which is the science of well-being. It includes concepts such as Positive Emotions, Positive Relationships and Character Strengths. The programme is also underpinned by the concept of emotional regulation.

Each level has 10 lessons and includes a Teacher Resource Book, Pupil Book, posters and multi-media links. It is also linked to the strands and strand units of the SPHE curriculum.  The programme has undergone an extensive piloting stage in schools around the country and feedback has been extremely positive.

Fiona will give an overview of the programme, as well as suggestions for implementing it in the classroom. Teachers who avail of this webinar will receive a discount of 15% if they wish to order the programme.

Post Primary Dig Portfolio Webinar Flyer 1

This webinar will explore how teachers can maximise the use of their school’s digital platform to engage in effective online assessment and feedback. The webinar content will explore the use of digital portfolios to support and enhance formative assessment and effective feedback practices and will draw focus to the PDST CPD supports available for teachers in this area. Importantly, we will also explore the planning considerations for schools when introducing digital portfolios into the classroom context.

Further Education Teachers – Supporting Inclusion and Progression through Assistive Technology

This workshop is offered by IT Tralee as part of the SOAR project for broadening participation in third level education.

Further Education is an important stepping-stone to third level study and provides a window of opportunity for developing self-directed learning skills.  For students with disabilities, a range of rapidly developing technologies can reduce or remove many of the barriers they face in education and support their successful progression to degree level and beyond.  Further Education courses provide an important opportunity for students to experiment with these, and to develop an effective learning process using the most appropriate tools for their own individual learning preferences.

In fact, many of the technologies now available have much wider application and are used effectively and productively by students and professionals across the board.  The need for all students to have access to a full range of technology for learning has been brought strongly to the fore by the current COVID crisis.

The first workshop will introduce a wide variety of mainly free and easily available assistive technology options which may be made available for students, allowing them to experiment with different means of representation and of expression as per Universal Design for Learning.

A follow up session will provide a forum for participants to share their experiences of applying the technologies in their classrooms, raising any difficulties encountered and sharing helpful practices.  Participants are asked to commit to attending both sessions.
