Teaching without your Laptop on a SMART Interactive Panel

• Explore the IQ (the built-in android computer) on the SMART Board. Learn how to use the SMART Board without being plugged into any computer.
• Discover features of the built-in whiteboard and how to get writing immediately.
• Share your whiteboard with your students on their personal devices for them to follow along as you teach or to go at their own pace.
• Use the browser to surf the web and open files such as PDF, PPT or Doc. Learn how to annotate over webpages and save your content for use at a later date.
• Screen share from any device to your SMART Board (apple, android, windows; phone or tablet).
• Use your tablet or phone as a visualizer to project any content onto the board.
• Store files on the board or create files at home and share them directly to your board for tomorrow’s lessons. Open files saved to a USB.
• Adjust settings and customize the board. Learn how to look for updates to make sure you are running on the newest version of the software.

Biography

My name is Melissa Shine. I am a Junior Infant teacher in St. Paul’s NS in Limerick. I began teaching almost 8 years ago after completing my Masters in NUIG in 2013.

I have always had a passion for ICT having worked in Currys PC World for several years through college. I have completed a yearlong course in ICT in Education in the Limerick Education Centre and many other courses IT related such as Scratch. These courses have allowed me to utilize my knowledge and apply it to my teaching in a meaningful way.

In previous years I have ran coding classes afterschool for the children in the senior classes and I give summer continuous professional development courses for CPD College Dublin for the last three years in e-Portfolios and other digital tools.

Using the SMART Boards over the last two years have allowed me to enhance my teaching, engage my students and increase overall participation in my lessons. This is something I am eager to share with my fellow teachers.
