21TRA270 IEPs – Including Speech, Language and Communication Goals

Struggling to include Speech, Language and Communication in your pupil’s IEP? Not sure how they can meet it within school? You are not alone!

‘Speech and language is their main need’

‘Their communication is a barrier to their learning’

Each of these are concerns teachers have raised with me more times than I can count. This short session will give you some inspiration in identifying functional, realistic goals that you can fit into your lesson plan (and not as an extra ‘to-do’).

What will we cover?

  • Writing a goal you know you can reach
  • How does this fit within the lesson plan, rather than as an ‘extra’
  • Identifying needs across different areas
  • How to prioritise what goals and when
  • How to set out goals to show progression
  • NCSE / SESS resources to guide your goals

This 60-minute session will be delivered by Alanna O’Connor, a Speech and Language Therapist with experience working with young people with autism and social communication disorders.

The webinar is suitable for SNAs, class teachers, learning support teachers who work with primary school (Junior Infants up to 6th Class).
