21TRA180 Free 'Heritage in Schools' visits for Kerry Primary Schools
In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and the uncertainty around the primary school environment for the months ahead the Heritage Council is pilot testing a temporary virtual Heritage in Schools programme for primary schools, offering a mix of pre-recorded and live interactive sessions on various heritage related topics.
Phase 1 of the pilot test ran from September to December 2020 in counties Kilkenny and Donegal and was very well received by participating schools. While virtual visits do not replace face to face interaction between children and Heritage Specialists or visits to heritage sites, teachers really welcomed the initiative during the pandemic.
Phase 2 of the pilot programme will run over eight weeks in counties Clare and Kerry and will again be free to participating schools. It will be 100% funded by the Heritage Council through the Heritage in Schools Scheme.
If you would like to be involved in the programme please sign up for our briefing webinar with Tralee Education Centre at 3pm on Tuesday, 2 nd March. You’ll hear more about the incentive and schools represented will receive five free one hour virtual sessions with a Heritage in Schools Specialist. Visit our website to browse our panel of 23 Heritage Specialists.
