21TRA293 Junior Cycle English - Looking Ahead - Helping More Students to Achieve Distinction and Higher Merit in 2022, While Ensuring Enjoyment in the English Classroom.
Teachers have been disappointed with low levels of achievement in Distinction (maximum of 2.5% - 2018H.L.) & Higher Merit (maximum 20.3% -2017 H.L.). This webinar will show ways to help students at all levels to achieve their highest potential, while enjoying the new broad range of texts in Junior Cycle English.
Taking into account the very helpful guidance for classroom best practiceprovided by Marking Schemes, it will give ideas for teaching new READING and WRITING skills , and Saving Teacher time. The session will show carefully planned and scaffolded writing assignments which have been designed to save time in preparing classes, in expanding student vocabulary, and in promoting better quality writing.

Bio of presenter:
PAULINE KELLY taught in Marian College for 24 years. First National Leader of Junior Cycle English Support Service, she has worked with SLSS, PDST, RTÉ, Poetry Ireland and PME students in Trinity, Maynooth and UCD. Pauline is the author/co-author of many best-selling English textbooks, including the market-leading Fire and Ice series for Junior Cycle English, Skills for Exam Success English and Gill Education’s new edition of Romeo and Juliet.
Deirdre MURPHY teaches in Newbridge College, Co. Kildare, and is a co-creator of free Junior Cycle English resources for RTÉ Radio 1’s Documentary on One series. She is co-author of the market-leading Fire and Ice series for Junior Cycle English and the Less Stress More Success JC OL English revision book
