22TRA614 Accelerate Your Dyslexic Child's Reading & Writing Skills

20% of children (1 in 5) around the globe have dyslexia. Understanding and supporting their development as early as possible using a scientifically proven method will be the key to unlocking their success. This course is about understanding dyslexia from a holistic point of view. Dyslexia not only impacts a child academically, but it also impacts their social and emotional well being. If interventions or diagnosis aren’t identified early, it could change the trajectory in one’s life. This course will help early and experienced teachers and parents understand how dyslexia impacts much more than what is assumed. Teachers may not recognise the signs and symptoms of dyslexia, and are often not given training or education on dyslexia, the science of reading, or early indicators to detect dyslexia. This makes teaching and understanding children with Dyslexia very difficult. This course will give you the basics to understand dyslexia while walking you in detail through practical ways of teaching your child so that they can accelerate their reading and writing skills development. The course focuses on the 6 components of structured literacy and is packed full of examples and resources which will help you give the best to your child.

Dr. Lauren McClenney-Rosenstein

Dr. Lauren McClenney-Rosenstein’s passion for educating, advocating, and bringing awareness to dyslexia at the domestic and international levels began in the elementary classrooms of private schools serving students with language-based learning disabilities. She has been a certified Special Educator for a decade, and she earned her Doctor of Education in Teaching, Learning, Leadership, & Curriculum in 2019 from Northeastern University and holds a dual masters in Special Education and Elementary Education from Syracuse University and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Syracuse University. Her dedication to providing the gold standard of instruction to individuals with dyslexia led her to obtain her endorsement at the Associate level through The Orton-Gillingham Academy in 2014. Eventually, she expanded her skill set in the public schools as a 7th and 8th grade math and English Language Arts (ELA) co-teacher before taking a position with a non-profit organization that advocates for inclusion in public schools for students with disabilities.
