21TRA234 Gamification for Motivation: Creating learning opportunities in Minecraft and easy-to-use apps for students with diminished motivation"
Motivation can be hampered by a wide variety of factors, be it as a result of learning difficulties, exceptionally able students becoming frustrated with the mainstream curriculum, or from a mismatch of methodology to student.
All of these factors, and their combination, can create diminished confidence and attainment over time. In addition, Minecraft can appear to be overwhelming as a tool in the classroom, but this webinar aims to work with teachers with zero to moderate confidence in working with this game as a versatile teaching tool for differentiation.
Aimed primarily at teaching Primary Students and early years Secondary Students of all ability levels, this webinar will provide ways of using Minecraft and other apps to address poor student motivation in areas such as literacy and numeracy, with a view to improving confidence with skills which can then be transferred to more traditional curricular methodologies and topics.
In class-applications will also be addressed. This webinar was created with predominately students with traits of Dyslexia/Dyscalculia in mind, along with Gifted Students, and students with Autism. From building vocabulary and sentence structure, along with writing responses in Literacy, to coming up with visual and spatial approaches to topics in Mathematics, this webinar aims to create game-based goals for students, enabling them to develop a sense of achievement and build their confidence, along with providing alternative communication paths for them to reach their potential.
