21TRA087 Webinar for Infant Teacher on Using Puppets to Develop Oral Language Skills
In this session participants will be introduced to how to incorporate puppets into the classroom and the various weekly adventures it can take children developing a range of both constrained e.g. alphabetic knowledge and unconstrained skills e.g. auditory memory. In this session we will explore a variety of skills that children need to be literate and through a case study with a puppet this will be exemplified.
Bio of Presenter

Dr. Catherine Gilliland is a Senior Lecturer in Language and Literacy in St Mary's University College, Belfast. She was the Keynote Speaker at the literacy Association of Ireland in 2016 and her work has taken her across Europe to deliver seminars and practical workshops. She was a speaker at the recent World Literacy Summit. She is a regular contributor to the LAI Newsletter and has a chapter published in, 'Playful Approaches to Learning.'
She has a passion for storyelling and making literacy learning as engaging as possible. In this webinar, fellow participants will be brought on a journey of how children learn to read and how we as practitioners can nourish the reading brain.
