Catholic Education: What's the point?

In a time where our culture is vastly changing and where anxiety and other mental health problems are on the rise, this course presents how the Catholic faith has a powerful message of hope, dignity and truth for the contemporary person. This is a course about the key messages to teach children about the Catholic faith to bring it to life and to highlight the role it plays in our culture. Since this course focuses on the main message of the Catholic faith, as well as how to communicate this, it is suitable for school leaders and primary and secondary school teachers of all backgrounds. This course promises to give you a new or refreshed look at why Catholic Education is relevant to our world.

This course will be run by Richard Casey, a primary school teacher experienced in the area of Catholic Education. He has led initiatives both in the classroom and in a school leadership role. He is a member of the Association of Catholic Teachers and is currently completing a Masters in Christian Leadership.

The course also explores strategies and interventions we can choose to prevent and manage challenging behaviour. In day two we look at our understanding of social skills and why pupils with SEN have difficulty developing effective social skills. We also explore effective assessment of social skills. Finally approaches to teaching social skills will be outlined and discussed.
