FÍS Film Festival 2015

The Education Centre Tralee is delighted to collaborate with the PDST Technology in Education, FÍS (Film In Schools) project and Kerry Film Festival to continue and improve interest and participation in the FÍS Project.

FÍS is an initiative of the Department of Education and Science and is a project designed to introduce the medium of film as a support to the Primary School Curriculum (Curaclam na Bunscoile).

In this context we acknowledge the support of the ten Kerry schools that participated in this year’s FÍS Film Project - Ardfert NS, Firies NS, Lauragh NS, St. Josephs NS Ballyheigue, Knockanes NS, St. Finian’s NS Waterville, Spa NS, Scoil Réalt na Mara, Scoil Muire Gan Smal and Holy Family NS Rathmore.

A wonderful day was had by all  who attended the awards ceremony that took place in the Helix, DCU on November 3rd, 2015 and was streamed live, making it possible for a global and national audience to be part of the celebrations where 24 category winners were announced.

The overall Aileen McKeogh Award went to Redeemer Girls National School, Dundalk for their film “The Jelly that Wouldn’t Wobble”.

We would like to congratulate the following Kerry schools who achieved awards at the 2014/15 national finals: –

Film Category winners:

  • Drama - St. Finnian’s N.S., Watervillefor “Micko’s Missing Medals”
  • Script - Ardfert N.S.for “The Fight for Freedom ”
  • Direction -St. Joseph’s N.S., Ballyheiguefor “The Chase”
  • Local Interest -Spa N.S.for “William and Mary Together Forever”

The Highly Commended Award was presented to:

  • Holy Family N.S., Rathmorefor “Patrick O’Connor’s Fight for Freedom”

National Gallery of Ireland : Gailearaí Náisiúnta na hÉireann

Dear Friends,

For those of you with an interest in the work of John Butler Yeats and the Yeats family, this should be proving a fruitful month for you here at the National Gallery of Ireland. In addition to our public lecture programme (free, Tuesdays 10.30am, Sundays 3pm – further information in the Gallery News), we will be running a study morning focusing on John Butler Yeats on Saturday 21 November. The full schedule is below, and tickets (€12, €5 students) are available from the NGI Shop or on Eventbrite.

A special free poetry reading of the work of W.B. Yeats will take place on Friday 27 November at 11am in the lecture theatre. Details are below and here on our website.

We hope to see you at some or all of these special events!
