The course is a practical hands - on week of learning in the beautiful setting of Gortbrack Organic Farm, Ballyseedy, Tralee.
Elements covered include planning and designing the Living Classroom, basic gardening skills, outdoor classroom management and linking the formal and informal Curriculum within the Living Classroom.
Promoting Well-being through the Living Classroom is a central feature of this Course. The objective is to introduce teachers to the concept of using the school grounds as an educational resource or ‘Living Classroom’ where practical activities can be undertaken to support and implement the Curriculum formally and informally. The development of Literacy and Numeracy skills and the promotion of life skills leading to positive well-being and health are predominant themes throughout the Course. The Course will also enable participants to work with their pupils to assess their particular school grounds and plan long term improvements.
