 This Webinar will explore:

  • New Junior Cycle SEC Sample paper overview with sample answers/solutions analysis.
  • Work with a new 1:10,000 Ordnance Survey map and Vertical Aerial photograph to engage Junior Cycle Geography students.
  • Examine the ‘Sail to Success’ technique developed to support student learning and enhance performance in state examinations at Junior Cycle Geography level.
  • Introduce Geography teachers to a digital tool called ‘Flipgrid’ that will enable them to support student learning at Junior Cycle and monitor student progress with an application called Flipgrid. This will engage and empower student voice in your classroom by letting then recording and sharing short video content. Flipgrid is Microsoft's video discussion platform that you can also integrate with gSuite to promote fun and social learning by giving every student an equal and amplified voice on the topics you define at Junior Cycle Geography level

Biography

Edmond Hussey, Post-Primary Geography Teacher and Digital Learning Coordinator, Christian Brothers College, Cork

Edmond Husssey

Edmond is a Geography teacher in CBC, Cork and is member of the Cork Education Support Centre’s Management Committee. A graduate of Mary Immaculate College, Edmond was awarded a B.A in Liberal Arts (Geography, Media and Communications). Committed to continuous professional development, he received 1st Class Masters of Education from UCC.  In addition, he was amongst the first cohort to graduate in the Toraíocht (Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Leadership) program run by NUIM. Previously he was on secondment to the PDST as an advisor, Edmond pioneered, facilitated and supported schools in the development and delivery of Politics and Society as Leaving Certificate Subject. He addressed the AGTI National Conference in 2018 on the topic “Teaching Geoliteracy in Junior Cycle Geography” and was the Keynote Speaker at the 2018 Cork Geography Teachers Association Conference on the themes of “Dedicated Improvement and Reflection Time: The role of reflective practice to support student learning in geography classrooms” and “Planning Units of Work for Junior Cycle Geography: Teaching Learning outcome 2.3 (identify how the physical landscape influences the development of primary activities) in a non-linear integrated approach”. Edmond has recently drafted the Educational Company of Ireland new sample Junior Cycle examination questions.
